Family Therapy
The Gestalt approach to family and systems therapy is based on the work of great Systems Theory pioneers like Virginia Satir, Salvador Manuchin, Jay Hayley and Murray Bowen. Family Therapy involves understanding and reframing issues from a multi-generational perspective. With this perspective, family members learn to understand that many factors that influence their intimacy and stability are a collection of values, behaviors and experiences that have shaped the family system through many generations. Gestalt therapists also seek to support the family's ability to understand how they do their 'work'... family work consists of variables such as communicating, playing, creating safety, working through conflict, building resources and supporting differences. Even in families that appear unstable, there exists an extremely creative work style that is able to keep the family intact. We believe that families are powerful entities that form the foundation of all healthy societies. Gestalt therapist seek to support the family system so that it can health and happiness is optimized in a structure unique to the individuals involved.
